Tachinid bristle fly, Archytas sp.
This is a large parasitoid fly. The larva of different species within this group of flies feeds on caterpillars, grasshopper eggs, and other insects. The adults though are nectar feeders. The body of this fly is metallic blue with a few stiff-looking hairs at the rear. The head is a golden color. The bristle fly is a striking insect and a good garden companion.
